Nostalgia Blinded 9: Duck 1984
from Nostalgia Blinded Hosted by Nick
Listen, a lot of people have taken to calling these modern YA stories “dystopias.” Beastars. Zootopia. Trolls. But those of us who know real literature know that the real dystopias are classics like Sitting Ducks. The razor-sharp satire. The nuance. The metaphor of predation between alligators and ducks as it applies to actual carnivorous predation, economic predation, and maybe also sexual predation, and the horrifying way the wool is pulled over a million duck eyes. And that’s not even to mention the essential and oft-overlooked role of chickens in the final pages. And the nuance? I did mention the nuance, didn’t I?
