A utility company president delivers a “finger-point” message aimed first at himself, built around a phrase from his Appalachian upbringing: “don't get above your raisin.” From Romans 12:3, the call is to think of yourself with sober judgment, because pride starts a downhill slide that separates us from others by position, power, or wealth. Through the story of a grandmother who lost everything in the Depression yet never lost her joy or authenticity, the teaching argues that influence does not require a title. God's plan for a life is beyond our expectations; the limit is not God but our fear and lack of trust. Drawing on James 5 and 1 Corinthians 12, the message warns against making material success the yardstick and urges authentic Christian leadership at every level of society.
