Brazilija z več kot 200 milijoni prebivalcev je velik medijski trg brez internetne nevtralnosti. Ničelne tarife mobilnih operaterjev so povdzignile WhatsApp v najbolj razširjeno aplikacijo, ta pa je postala tudi pomemben vir novic, celo lažnih. Facebook, ki ima v lasti WhatsApp, sicer poudarja, da želi biti partner dobremu novinarstvu in mačeha lažnim novicam. Največji brazilski časopis Folha de Sao Paulo pa v takšnem partnerstvu ne vidi več koristi. Odločili so se, da na svoji Facebook strani – ki ima kar 6 milijonov sledilcev – ne bodo več objavljali. Nepredvidljivi algoritmi niso naklonjeni niti dobremu novinarstvu niti poslovnemu modelu, razlaga vodja digitalne redakcije Camila Marques. To pa je odprt prostor za raznovrstne argumente iz različnih zornih kotov. Odločitev je povezana tudi s poslovnim modelom. Ko je Facebook zagnal storitev Instant Articles, niso eksplicitno rekli, da bodo tem člankom dajali prednost, le to, da bodo strani, ki se nalagajo hitro, imele več prikazov. Facebook tudi ne dovoljuje plačilnih zidov. Ker vse to preprečuje, da bi bralci postali naročniki, se za Instant Articles nismo odločili. Od takrat smo opazili, da na naše strani s Facebooka prihaja vse manj ljudi, na srečo pa smo na Folhi vedno stavili na več različnih digitalnih storitev.“
