Posak Jodian Misafafahiyan (Metamorphosis) Single-channel video, color, sound 16:27 2022 [The script of this episode] Misafafahiyan, a newly coined word, combines misa, meaning "to become," and fafahiyan, meaning “woman", in the Amis language. This title reflects the journey of metamorphosis of Hao Hao, an Amis drag performer from the Fata’an community in Hualien, whose life story unfolds in this work. The video adopts the style of a karaoke background video, featuring Hao Hao’s performances. As the footage progresses, he begins recounting his early years working in Taipei, interwoven with casual conversations between him, the artist Posak Jodian, and the production team. Hao Hao was once a certified professional singer, performing across venues such as cabarets, Western-style restaurants, burlesque parlors, and red envelope clubs. As these performance spaces gradually faded, he returned to his tribal community, where he continues to perform at weddings and housewarming celebrations. The entire piece is interwoven with three Amis songs, “Kinship," "A Friend from Elsewhere," and "Midnight Neon Lights, conveying Hao Hao’s life journey and transformation. As an Amis artist based in Taipei, Posak Jodian’s works often explore the contrasts between urban and indigenous ways of life.
