At first glance, they may appear to be a massive abstract installation. However, if you move to the center of the work and observe more attentively, you will realize that they are arranged to form a sentence: "To reconstruct 1 cm³ of land, it requires 100 years." This is not just the title of the work but also the crucial message the artist aims to convey. Soil is the foundation of life on Earth, yet it is bearing the consequences of human actions. Did you know that a piece of land contaminated by pollution takes an entire century to restore to a state where it can support life and be suitable for cultivation? This piece is not only a visual shock but also a reminder that if we continue to neglect our connection with the environment, we will eventually trigger an irreversible spiral of destruction. Wu Mali often addresses ecological and environmental issues in her work.
