President Donald Trump kicked off July Fourth celebrations on Wednesday, cutting the red ribbon to officially open the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. Trump delivered remarks during the dedication ceremony, paying tribute to Roosevelt and describing him as “a man who embodied the heart and soul and fight and spirit of our country.” Trump told audience members that Roosevelt was “a staunch and ferocious opponent of a thing called communism,” and drew attention to an increase in support for communism in America today, following the successful primaries in New York and Colorado of Democratic Socialists. He called it “the greatest threat to our country.” The Department of Justice announces new federal charges against eight illegal immigrants who are allegedly members of Tren de Aragua—a Venezuelan gang designated as a foreign terrorist organization—in its ongoing efforts to fight against transnational crime. The charges were filed for two separate crimes of kidnapping and murder. Two masked individuals are in custody after climbing to the top of New York City’s Empire State building’s spire. The duo flew a banner from the top that read, “When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.”
