The Lord’s Supper is a time of self-examination of our walk with the Lord in the light of what it took for Jesus to provide our salvation for us. What is the gospel of our salvation? It is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day according to the scripture. The shedding of God’s own blood to pay our sin debt. It is also connected to the Pretribulation Rapture of the Church! Paul says that when we observe the ordinance of the Lord’s supper, we are reminding ourselves of 1). The true cost of our salvation, and 2). The Return of Jesus at the Rapture of the Church. John says that this ‘blessed hope’ is a purifying hope. So what then is the real reason for remembering the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus? To keep ourselves on a short leash with the Lord.
