Nuances in Ikkarim #1-4: Yesodei ha'Torah 1:8-12

Send me a text!In today's Rambam Bekius chavurah (12/9/20 at YBT) we reviewed the halachos we learned yesterday with the goal of understanding each new point the Rambam was making, with all of its nuances. As we have found throughout our Rambam Bekius journey, a close-reading of the Rambam reveals far more questions and problems than a first, second, or tenth superficial reading! After puzzling over these issues, we decided to read through the first four ikkarim (or yesodos) in the Rambam's introduction to Perek Chelek, since these were all addressed in the first chapter of Hilchos Yesodei ha'Torah. Each session consists of us reading through the Rambam's writings together without much preparation on my part, and without going into depth by consulting commentaries or primary sources. For all these reasons, there are bound to be inaccuracies, errors, and other types of shortcomings which would not be acceptable in a prepared shiur, but are quite typical of a bekius chavurah.
