Nuclear treaty
from General Podcast · host Channel Africa
This week marks the anniversary of the atomic bombings of the two Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 by the US. Seventy-two years on since this deadliest bombing, calls to stop the use of nuclear weapons grow louder. The Red Cross movement however believes that there is hope, as states are challenged to sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons at the United Nations in New York on 20 September. For more on the significance of this treaty we are now joined on the line by Louis Maresca, legal advisor to the arms unit of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
