Numbers 10 - The Silver Trumpets | Bible Podcast, David Alley, Peace Christian Church
In this video listen to Numbers 10 read by David Alley, followed by comments and prayer. In Numbers 10 we have instructions about how to use two silver trumpets. These were for summoning the people to gatherings, and to signalling them when the entire group was about to set off for travel.Trumpets are everywhere in the Bible used for many purposes. Firstly, earlier in Exodus when the people were at Mt Sinai, and after that used for warnings, going into battle, summoning people, announcement of judgement and more. The idea of a trumpet blast before the entire congregation moving on to a new place (as in this chapter) is like the last trumpet before all God’s people are called home. Trumpets are very symbolic.Trumpets used 114 times in the NIV including:Giving of the Law An annual feast - Rosh Hashanah (Feast of Trumpets) for ReconciliationCall to WarUsed in the Story of GideonUsed in Joel’s Pentecost Prophecy (Aka Giving of the Law again)Summons for a Gathering of PeopleEnd time JudgementsThe Last Trumpet is Christ’s returnThe Day of the LordAnd Finally, the trumpets blow and they Leave Sinai for the first time. They have been here for over a year since leaving Egypt and God has done many things with them, and they are now going to Canaan. Except, they don’t trust God and are going to wander for another 38 years.Paul would later write in 1 Corinthians 10:11 - “Now these things happened unto them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.” After all God had done, why didn’t they trust him?
