Balaam obeys at first, but Balak sends more officials with greater rewards, appealing to Balaam again.Balaam seeks God a second time, and God permits him to go but commands him to speak only what He says. His donkey sees the angel and turns aside, and Balaam strikes the donkey repeatedly.God opens the donkey’s mouth, and it speaks to Balaam. Then God opens Balaam’s eyes, and he sees the angel with a drawn sword. The angel explains that the donkey saved Balaam’s life. Balaam acknowledges his sin, and the angel instructs him to continue, again emphasizing that he must speak only God’s words. The chapter ends with Balaam meeting Balak.
