Nursing Exam Fee Skyrockets | Calgary News

Nursing students across Canada are bracing for a major financial blow as the mandatory licensing exam fee skyrockets from $360 to $570 — a 58% jump — hitting them just as tuition and unpaid clinical hours climb. The Canadian Nursing Students’ Association warns this adds unbearable pressure on new grads entering a desperately needed field, while the fee-setting body cites 25 years of inflation and rising security costs. They admit consultation was lacking and urge provinces to step in with grants, bursaries, and loan forgiveness — especially since some aid has already been slashed. The hike takes effect nationwide on February 1, 2027, making it harder for future healthcare heroes to get started.
