NVIDIA GTC- Day One Recap (the human side of the conference)

Despite the San Jose rain, NVIDIA's GTC kicked off with high energy today. Here's my quick rundown of Day One experiences before tomorrow's big keynote.The Tech Is Getting PersonalI started my day with a brain-wave reading robot that initially judged my mental state as "not very Zen." When I attempted some impromptu yoga poses (while juggling my laptop bag), the robot actually responded differently. The attendant's comment: "I haven't seen it behave this way before." Score one for mindfulness in the age of AI.The "virtual try-on" station for conference merch was clever but could use some Instagram-style filters. After circling the city for parking, I was not looking my best in those “try-on” shots. Ugh. Sessions & InsightsThe afternoon sessions were packed but well-organized. Information booths were plentiful, making navigation easier despite the sold-out crowds.Highlight of the day: The "Introduction to Autonomous Vehicles" session with Katie Washabaugh and Aaraadhya Narra from NVIDIA. Seeing women leading in this space was refreshing, and their explanation of simulation approaches to edge-driving scenarios was fascinating.I also interviewed the CEO of Illumenex on Agentic AI, hallucination challenges, and DeepSeek's impact – look for deeper coverage on those topics soon. It was a fantastic interview and I look forward to writing it up.Tomorrow's Keynote: Survival TipsIf you're attending tomorrow:* Parking was challenging today and will be worse tomorrow* Arrive as early as humanly possible * Shuttles start running at 8 AM from the convention center* Seating is first come- first serve.
