Hello 2026 🐎 🐎 🐎 We took January off to recover from the mayhem that was the holidays, between servicing a busy shop, private events, family and getting sick, the end of the year was intense! However we are back w/ our first communiqué of the year to announce our next artist residency in the form of this podcast + a hand selected playlist by local artist, Daniel Hicks. We met Daniel through our close friend and current exhibiting artist, Victor Sánchez, who also helps us with the curatorial duties of keeping our gallery alive (🫂). Whilst discussing our next gallery exhibition/artist, Victor showed me the works of Daniel through his social media account, I was immediately on board! The works were a different direction from our previous shows and truly captivating when meeting the eye, it evoked emotion through the screen and I could only imagine how it would feel inside 𝔩𝔭. There was only one issue…neither of us knew Daniel personally or had any direct connection to him. So Victor did what most millennials are so accustomed to doing, he slid into the DMs to express our interest in exploring the opportunity. Fast forward 2-weeks later and Victor was having coffee w/ Daniel and his wife on a busy Sunday morning at 𝔩𝔭, which for those who know, also happens to be one of the days when we are the busiest. We were playing Jazz b-sides and Daniel recognized the Prince Lasha + Sonny Simmons record I had just dropped; I dug this guy even more now! This podcast recording was therefore my first actual conversation with Daniel, my first opportunity to truly get to know him on a deeper/person level aside from our affinity for obscure jazz records. We dive deeper into the specifics of his art and the pieces he will be exhibiting at 𝔩𝔭, not to mention the badass playlist he put together for us; truly spectacular (don’t shuffle it!).
