For us, some of the best DJs we’ve encountered are often times not even DJs by trade but rather collectors of artifacts, moments and souvenirs of life. This is definitely that case w/ Itza aka Cartas Ek Statikas. On this episode of not vinyl, we’re joined by the local “leyenda,” which some of you might recognize from previous engagements at Lp where she has graced us w/ sounds from her extensive library. Others might recognize Itza from work around the city or from her radio show on San Diego’s KNSJ Radio. We’re stoked to finally have Itza w/ us for this genuine non-edited convo about all sorts of topics including her guest playlist which also happens to be tied into a dope event we’re organizing. For those like me who are not familiar w/ the musical ensemble Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, or “OMD” as they are affectionately referred to, this will be a good starting point. It’s rare or much rather uncalled for that we ask a guest to specifically take my request(s) when curating their track-list…however we broke the rules on this episode. You see, we’re organizing one of our next nighttime events which will be highlighting the music of OMD and OMD only for just one night. We’ve done a couple of these artist/group specific events already (The Cure, Luis Miguel, Sade) and they are by no means a “listening party” but rather a full on party. The last event Itza did with us was to celebrate the birthday of Robert Smith, where she played The Cure records all night, we invited our homies from Walk-In Tattoo to set up a flash tattoo station; it was tremendous and a real treat for all the goth kids out there. Expect us to announce an official date for OMD Night @ Lp which will most likely be on a Thursday night in September, we’ll be exploring a later start + end time for this one (8p-Midnight), you heard it here first :-) In the meantime, a link to the full 13-song Spotify playlist can be found below and the pod can be either viewed or listened to via your fav podcast app or directly through Substack.
