Send us Fan MailThe most confusing part of the Christian life is also one of the most revealing: why do we still feel a war inside us after we’ve come to Christ? We open Romans 7:16 to 17 and take Paul’s words seriously, especially “it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells within me.” That line can sound like an excuse until you see what Paul is actually doing. He’s separating the believer’s renewed identity from the remaining corruption that still clings to us, while keeping full moral responsibility on the table.We talk about the law of God as good, holy, and righteous, and why our grief over sin is a kind of agreement with God’s standard, not a sign the standard is broken. The struggle itself becomes evidence of regeneration, because only a renewed heart hates the sin it commits and longs for conformity to God’s will. From there we move into salvation and assurance, connecting Romans 10:17 to the idea that faith comes by hearing and hearing comes by God’s command, like Christ calling Lazarus from the dead, not like a negotiation with spiritually neutral people.To make sanctification concrete, we use a blunt image: sin is a squatter in a house the Lord owns. Its dominion is broken through union with Christ, but its presence remains until glorification. We close with a real-life application from the group about how seasons of loss, fear, worry, and loneliness can flare up new battles, reminding us the fight is daily until God brings us home.
