OB049: Medical Emergencies

from Opposing Bases: Air Traffic Talk · host Air Traffic Talk

It's Monday December 3, 2018.  Welcome back, everyone.  On today's show, we talk about pilot medical issues and keep chipping away at the feedback! "Tango Mike, The Fire Truck Guy" sent in some great audio feedback about controller's diagnosing pilot's with medical emergencies.  How do controllers train to recognize these events and more importantly, how do the controllers help the pilot's in need?  What happens when a pilot demonstrates diminished mental capacity or shows signs of hypoxia or possible intoxication? Audio from a distressed/hypoxic pilot and interaction with ATC. Audio from an incident involving a drunk pilot and ATC recognizing the problem and alerting authorities.  Great job, ATC!  The controllers were honored at the Archie League Awards banquet in September.  To learn more about the Archie League Awards, click here.   To watch the video, click here. Hosted annually by the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA), Communicating For Safety (CFS) is the aviation industry's leading conference focusing on safety, technology and building relationships. This three-day event is unique in that it's the only conference of its kind to focus specifically on the air traffic needs of all members of the aviation community who are affected by the National Airspace System (NAS).   Have a great week and thanks for listening!  Visit our website at OpposingBases.com You can now support our show using Patreon or visiting our support page on the website. Here, we share and embrace our passion for the hospitality industry, but we won’t romanticize the journey. We ask the tough questions, confront uncomfortable truths, and prepare for a future that resists easy answers. We believe that the tougher and wilder times become, the more openly, honestly and humanely people need to talk to each other and act together. We believe, openness, togetherness, and truthfulness should also be cornerstones of a professional community to develop our utopian idea of „open source“.
