Episode Description
A journal reported that a number of young South Africans who are suffering from obesity has doubled six years while it has only taken 13 years for the United States. In the beginning of this year the International Journal of Epidemiology highlighted that there was a greater increase of obesity in low-and-middle-income countries due to socio-economic and demographic changes that has now triggered rapid changes in nutrition. Meanwhile in general, there are various health challenges on the continent, as the World Health Organisation says that while overweight rates in children might still be low, the proportion and numbers are increasing in all age groups. Among adults for example, overweight, including obesity, affects about one in three women, with rates of over 40 percent in Gabon, Ghana and Lesotho.
