Observations: Bizarre religion

Every religion has weird practices and ideas attached to it that, while not essential to the religion, and maybe even inimical to it, can influence the way it is seen. They can alienate or drive away people who try to live and believe sensibly, intelligently, and without having to apologize for the bizarre.
