The division of the Roman Empire into Eastern and Western halves led to the same division in Christianity. Different histories in East and West then caused the development of different approaches to civil and social power. The responses to the Russian war against Ukraine shows problems in both approaches. It is high time we recovered from the ills of the Roman Empire.
