Occupied: Power, Puppets, and the Slow-Motion Collapse of American Sovereignty

from Occupied · host Mr.Cox

The Bill Gates ProblemLet’s begin with Bill Gates, because apparently the world cannot stop putting this man on camera no matter how many alarm bells he trips on the way out the door.Gates is back in the news pushing digital ID infrastructure under the familiar banner of global progress — the same brand of benevolent futurism that has underwritten everything from COVID vaccine rollouts to agricultural monopolies in the developing world. The pEore organized world. What they will also do, of course, is create a permanent, trackable record of every human being on the planet — a capability that could not possibly be exploited by bad actors, authoritarian regimes, or the very billionaires funding its construction. The naivety required to believe otherwise would be genuinely impressive if the stakes weren’t so catastrophically high.Gates has spent decades positioning himself as a global health philanthropist while simultaneously accumulating influence over food systems, public health policy, seed patents, and now digital identity. At what point does “charity” become “control infrastructure”? The question answers itself.FARA’s Quiet Death and What It MeansHere’s a story that deserves far more attention than it’s received: the Foreign Agents Registration Act congressional reporting program, which ran continuously from 1938, effectively went dark after 2021.FARA, for those unfamiliar, is the law that requires individuals conducting political or advocacy work on behalf of foreign governments to register with the Department of Justice and publicly disclose their activities, funding, and disbursements. It was designed specifically to ensure that the American public knew when foreign money was buying American political influence. The annual congressional reports that made this information accessible — organized, searchable, digestible — stopped being produced after 2021. The data still technically exists, distributed across Texas A&M archives and OpenSecrets filters, but the clean, presented format that allowed for real accountability has quietly been discontinued.Coincidence? You’re welcome to that conclusion. Others will note the timing against the backdrop of escalating foreign lobbying activity and ask harder questions about who benefits from making that information harder to find. The Federal Reserve’s Structured LossesA former World Bank president recently went public with a breakdown of how the Federal Reserve has engineered losses at a structural level — borrowing from banks at elevated interest rates and parking the proceeds in government bonds at lower yields. The predictable result: the government spent years operating under the illusion that cheap money was permanent, borrowed heavily in short-duration instruments, and is now facing a reckoning as rates normalized. The private capital that might have funded businesses, created jobs, and generated real economic returns instead sat inside the Fed’s balance sheet producing accounting losses. Meanwhile, the public absorbed the risk. This is what regulatory capture looks like from the inside — not a villain in a cape, but a series of incentive structures that consistently favor institutional insiders over ordinary citizens, executed so gradually that by the time the damage is visible, the architects have long since moved on.Laura Loomer’s Influence Operation and the FARA Gray ZoneLaura Loomer’s primary business entity, King Breaker Media LLC, was formed in April 2023 through a discount LLC formation service in Lady Lake, Florida. She is listed as the sole authorized person. No co-owners, no investors, no disclosed clients, no foreign principals — just the bare minimum required to keep the entity active. And yet Loomer has publicly stated that during a trip to Israel, she met with military officials, Knesset members, and senior Israeli politicians to hold policy discussions. She has described herself as “Israel First” and has argued, without apparent irony, that putting Israel first is the same as putting America first.Under FARA, individuals engaged in political or advocacy work on behalf of foreign governments are required to register with the DOJ and disclose those relationships. The law carries penalties of up to five years imprisonment and $250,000 in fines for willful violations. There is also a separate statute targeting sitting public officials who act as agents of foreign principals, carrying up to two years imprisonment.Whether Loomer’s activities meet the legal threshold for FARA violations is a question for prosecutors — prosecutors who, it should be noted, have shown little appetite for pursuing these cases against anyone with the right political connections. The Department of Justice is many things. Aggressive is not currently one of them.Tucker Carlson on IDF Officers in the PentagonTucker Carlson recently described a pattern — relayed by current and former Pentagon staff — in which Israeli Defense Force officers were physically present at the Pentagon, entering meetings uninvited, issuing demands, and generally conducting themselves as though they had authority over American military decision-making.Pentagon personnel were reportedly enraged. Leadership reportedly did nothing.Carlson framed this as a failure of American leadership enabling foreign overreach. That framing is accurate as far as it goes. But there’s a harder interpretation worth sitting with: perhaps the reason nothing was done is that the behavior was, at some implicit level, permitted — not through any formal agreement, but through the accumulated weight of decades of deference, financial entanglement, and political leverage that has made meaningful pushback effectively impossible. When a foreign government can talk the American president into military commitments, shape congressional legislation through eight-figure lobbying operations, and reportedly station officers inside the American military headquarters without consequence, the question of whether that government considers itself “foreign” at all becomes genuinely interesting.Randy Fine: Case Study in Domestic Foreign AgencyFlorida State Representative Randy Fine provides one of the cleaner case studies in what it looks like when an elected official’s loyalty to a foreign government becomes explicit enough to be documentable.Fine has publicly stated he reserves at least one piece of legislation per year for explicitly Jewish or pro-Israel causes. He co-sponsored legislation to arm Azerbaijan — a country that has conducted ethnic cleansing operations against Armenians. He sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the body that shapes U.S. policy on exactly these regions. He has received over $400,000 from AIPAC and the pro-Israel donor network. He has referenced Israeli government documents — specifically, an Israeli-maintained list of individuals deemed insufficiently supportive of Israel — as justification for his domestic political positions, including his stated view that Armenians should not be permitted to serve in Congress. That last point warrants dwelling on. An elected American official used a foreign government’s internal ranking system as the basis for arguing that American citizens of a specific ethnic background are disqualified from federal office. This is not a fringe interpretation of Fine’s position — he said it publicly.Fine’s rhetoric has been extreme enough that AIPAC briefly removed him from their database before quietly re-endorsing him. When an organization whose entire function is to maximize pro-Israel political influence thinks you’re being too obvious, that tells you something. The applicable statutes are straightforward. FARA covers undisclosed foreign influence operations. 18 U.S.C. § 219 covers public officials acting as foreign agents. Honest services fraud applies when officials make policy decisions driven by foreign interest rather than public duty. Federal bribery statutes apply when officials receive things of value from foreign governments or their proxies in exchange for official acts. The challenge is not the law. The challenge is a DOJ that has demonstrated no interest in applying it to anyone politically inconvenient.Netanyahu’s Holocaust Remembrance Day AddressSpeaking on Holocaust Remembrance Day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a speech warning of enemies “bent on our destruction” and pledging that Israel would defend itself against all pressure from the international community. He closed by warning that Israel was determined to “defeat our genocidal enemies.”The address was delivered during an active military campaign in Gaza that international courts, humanitarian organizations, and legal scholars across the political spectrum have described using that same word. The performance of victimhood as justification for the conduct being described — delivered, with full awareness, on the day specifically designated to remember genocide — represents a particular kind of audacity that defies easy categorization. Call it projection at scale, delivered with a podium and a prayer shawl.Netanyahu’s family, for what it’s worth, changed their surname from Mileikowsky — a Polish name — upon immigrating to Mandatory Palestine, adopting “Netanyahu” as part of the broader Hebrewization movement among Zionist settlers. He also spent sixteen years living and working in the United States, served as Israel’s ambassador to the UN, and maintained a Manhattan apartment on Fifth Avenue for nearly four decades before transferring it to the Israeli state in May 2025. The man’s biography is, in a meaningful sense, as American as it is Israeli.Jared Kushner’s Gaza Development PlanUnited States Special Envoy Jared Kushner unveiled a $25 billion plan to redevelop Gaza into what he described as a “free market” zone featuring coastal towers and data centers — to be funded, naturally, by American taxpayer dollars. This is the logical endpoint of the policy framework the United States has been executing in the Middle East for the better part of three decades: destroy, reconstruct, financialize. Lebanon is likely next. Syria is in the queue. The pattern is consistent enough to be a blueprint. That the blueprint is being implemented by a real estate developer who conducted back-channel diplomacy with foreign governments as a private citizen — activities that legal scholars have argued may implicate the Logan Act — is either a feature or a bug depending on your perspective.InfoWars, Alex Jones, and the End of an EraInfoWars broadcast its final show. Alex Jones signed off with a prayer, a salute to his crew, and what appeared to be genuine emotion.Whatever your view of Jones — and reasonable people land in very different places — he spent years warning about surveillance infrastructure, government overreach, and foreign influence operations that were, at the time, largely dismissed as paranoid fantasy. Some of what he said was wrong. Some of what he said was ahead of the curve by a decade or more.He called attention to 9/11 anomalies before the consensus caught up. He talked about digital ID systems and population tracking when those ideas were being dismissed as tinfoil hat territory. None of that made everything he said correct. But the wholesale dismissal of his concerns — rather than engagement with the underlying questions — served specific interests.Don’t go off the wagon, Alex. Start another channel. The work continues. The Structural Problem: Laws Without EnforcementThe legal architecture to address foreign influence operations in American governance exists. It has existed for decades. FARA, 18 U.S.C. § 219, honest services fraud, federal bribery statutes, the Logan Act — the framework is there. What is absent is a Department of Justice willing to apply it consistently, a Congress with the institutional courage to demand enforcement, and a media ecosystem with the independence to sustain the pressure required to make accountability politically unavoidable.Instead, the laws have been written with enough specificity and enough gray area that sophisticated operators can dance around them indefinitely while the DOJ declines to pursue cases that might inconvenience the wrong people. This is not a failure of the legal system. It is a failure of political will — which is a different problem entirely, and a harder one to fix.Final NoteThe Occupied Podcast will keep running as long as it can. These conversations — imperfect, unpolished, occasionally interrupted by a cat named Winston — are part of a broader effort to ask questions that the institutional press has largely stopped asking.Whether you agree with every conclusion or not, the questions themselves are worth asking. Who is paying whom. Who holds office on behalf of which country. Where the money goes and what it buys. Why the laws exist but the prosecutions don’t.Keep watching. Keep asking. The blackout, if it comes, won’t announce itself. Thanks for reading! This post is public so feel free to share it.This Substack is reader-supported.
