OCR Rise, Move-On Order Recommendations, and Andrew Bayly's Calls for a Pension Age Increase w/ the National Party's Tom Rutherford: 8 September, 2026

Last week, the reserve bank moved to raise the OCR by another 25 base points, to 2.75 percent. Naturally, this has spawned conversation about the state of the economy.  Last week also saw the parliamentary justice committee release a report on the changes to move in orders, prompting further changes to the bill including excluding 14-17 year olds And in a speech, outgoing National MP Andrew Bayly called for a raising of the pension age, raising the question of whether or not the national party will move to approach the topic going forward into the election.
