OCTOBER 2 - Revenge or Redemption?3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 24:28–29; Psalm 113; John 2//3-Year Bible Devotional Book Available on Amazon//________________________________________“Be not a witness against your neighbor without cause, and do not deceive with your lips. Do not say, ‘I will do to him as he has done to me; I will pay the man back for what he has done.’” — Proverbs 24:28–29“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people.” — Psalm 113:7–8“Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.’ His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’” — John 2:4–5________________________________________It’s easy to want payback when someone hurts you. Maybe a friend betrayed your trust, someone spread a rumor, or a classmate made you feel small in front of others. Our natural response is often, “They’ll get what’s coming to them.” But the wisdom of Proverbs 24:29 challenges that. God invites us to break the cycle of revenge and instead trust Him with justice.Meanwhile, Psalm 113 shows us a different side of God—the one who lifts up the broken and forgotten. Instead of fighting for payback, we’re called to be like Him: lifting others, not dragging them down. And in John 2, we see Jesus at a wedding in Cana. Even though His “hour” hadn’t come, He still turned water into wine out of love and compassion. He didn’t respond with, “It’s not my problem.” He responded with grace.________________________________________THINK ABOUT IT1. Choose Redemption Over Revenge: When you feel wronged, do you try to “even the score,” or do you look for a way to respond with grace? How could choosing mercy change the outcome?2. God Lifts the Lowly: Psalm 113 reminds us that God sees those who are hurting and lifts them up. Could God be calling you to be that kind of person for someone else today?3. “Do Whatever He Tells You”: Mary’s words in John 2 are simple but powerful. What is Jesus telling you to do in a tough situation right now—even if it’s not easy?________________________________________BOTTOM LINEGod calls us to respond to hurt with humility and grace, not revenge. When we follow Jesus’ example, we bring peace and healing into situations where others expect conflict.________________________________________PRAYERHeavenly Father, thank You for being a God who lifts us up and sees our pain. Help me not to seek revenge but to trust You with justice. Teach me to respond with grace, like Jesus, even when it’s hard. Let my life reflect Your mercy and love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
