OCTOBER 20 - Wisdom, Wounds, and Wonder3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 26:8–9; John 20//3-Year Bible Devotional Book Available on Amazon//________________________________________“Like one who binds the stone in the sling is one who gives honor to a fool. Like a thorn that goes up into the hand of a drunkard is a proverb in the mouth of fools.” — Proverbs 26:8–9“Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.’” — John 20:27________________________________________We all know what it’s like to hear advice from someone who clearly doesn’t live it out. It feels empty, or worse—like a slap in the face. Proverbs 26:8–9 warns against honoring fools and letting truth fall into the wrong hands. In contrast, John 20 gives us a powerful picture of Jesus meeting Thomas in his doubt—not with judgment, but with proof and presence. Jesus’ wounds spoke louder than words. When people see that our faith is real—rooted in both truth and love—they’ll believe it's worth something.________________________________________THINK ABOUT IT1. Truth in the Right Hands: How are you using the wisdom you know? Are you applying it to your life, or just repeating it to others without living it?2. Wounds that Witness: Jesus showed Thomas His scars to prove His resurrection. What “scars” or experiences in your life can God use to show others He’s real?3. Belief and Doubt: Thomas didn’t hide his doubt, and Jesus didn’t shame him for it. Are you honest with God about your questions? What would it look like to bring your doubts to Him in faith?________________________________________BOTTOM LINEWisdom without love is empty, but real faith—shown through your life and even your struggles—can point others to Jesus.________________________________________PRAYERHeavenly Father, thank You for showing us the difference between empty words and real wisdom. Help me live what I believe, and let my life reflect the truth of who You are. Use even my doubts and scars to bring others closer to You. Strengthen my faith like You did for Thomas, and make me a witness of Your love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
