October 2020 Thanksgiving - Gratitude for Godly Sorrow

Repentance begins with sorrow. It is not a sorrow that leads us to punish ourselves that is counterproductive, and we have no right to scourge ourselves in payment for our sins. They have already been paid for by Christ's blood. There is a feeling of Godly sorrow and worldly sorrow. 2 Corinthians 7:10 For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation; but the sorrow of the world produces death. In today's episode, we are going to see: 1. Godly sorrow over sin and its resulting repentance and godliness. 2. Ungodly sorrow, which results in regret, but no true repentance or turning to God. 3. Then, we will look at the two most dramatic Biblical examples of each. Judas, our instance of worldly sorrow, and Peter, Godly sorrow, which reinforces our assurance. 4. Lastly, we will look at our true repentance's sublime results and turn to righteousness. That will be the focus of our gratitude in today's devotion. Hebrews 12: 11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine. Thank You, Jesus, for not leaving us in our sin, but driving us to sorrow and removing by Thy blood, our regret.
