OCTOBER 8 - Sweet and Steady3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 25:15–16; Psalm 116; John 8//3-Year Bible Devotional Book Available on Amazon//________________________________________With patience a ruler may be persuaded, and a soft tongue will break a bone. If you have found honey, eat only enough for you, lest you have your fill of it and vomit it. —Proverbs 25:15–16I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. Because he inclined his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live. —Psalm 116:1–2So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. —John 8:36________________________________________Sometimes life feels like it’s all about extremes. You’re either drowning in stress or bored out of your mind. You’re either all-in with God or you’re struggling and feel far away. These passages remind us that God isn’t looking for extremes—He’s looking for steadiness, honesty, and freedom. In Proverbs 25, there’s wisdom in knowing your limits. Don’t overdo even the good stuff, like honey. In Psalm 116, we’re reminded that God listens to us with compassion, even when we’re at our lowest. And in John 8, Jesus makes this bold promise: true freedom comes through Him. He doesn’t expect perfection—He offers grace that sets us free.________________________________________THINK ABOUT IT1. Patience Wins: Have you ever tried to force something to happen—like changing someone’s mind, proving your point, or fixing something fast? Proverbs says that patience and gentle words can be more powerful than pressure or anger. How can you practice patience this week?2. Know Your Limits: The honey metaphor is about self-control. What are things in your life (even good ones) that can become “too much”? Is God inviting you to find balance?3. Freedom in Christ: Jesus said, “You will be free indeed.” What kind of freedom are you craving—freedom from guilt, fear, pressure to fit in? Real freedom starts when we lean into who Jesus says we are: loved, heard, and free.________________________________________BOTTOM LINETrue strength is steady, not extreme. God calls us to live wisely, walk in freedom, and trust Him with every step.________________________________________PRAYERHeavenly Father, thank You for hearing me even when I don’t have all the right words. Teach me to live with patience, balance, and freedom in You. Help me recognize when I’m overdoing things and remind me that true peace comes from trusting You. I want to walk in the freedom Jesus gives—free from fear, free to follow You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
