For the message, Darleen read Mark 10:13-31. In three encounters, Jesus upends the the assumptions of his closest friends and followers: By inviting the children, Jesus welcomed people who don’t seem to belong in important spaces; A rich man who speaks with Jesus is asked to give away the very thing that makes him privileged; While affirming that those who sacrifice will be rewarded, Jesus reorients the conversation back to the work his followers need to do. The work of love requires a relentless commitment to the truth — and this will be a truth that surprises and challenges us. How might God call us to the work of examining and releasing our privilege? How might God seek to heal the blindness that keeps us from experiencing a fuller understanding of what is true?
