David was in the presence of what we know to be a tyrant, a selfish, murderous leader, a killer, a hostile enemy to the priests of God. I mean this doesn’t just get David in a self-serving sense, “I’ll-get-to-be-king,” but it can get to David in a wanting-justice sense. You think David was incensed that Saul is killing people to get to David? And let’s be honest, our mindset is eye-for-eye. Tooth-for-tooth. Limb-for-limb. Life-for-life. Our mindset is, a little evil for a greater-good is okay. Would it even be evil to begin with? To kill Saul? David thinks so.
