Officer shot during Fraser Coast welfare check

A 45-year-old man from Gayndah is dead, and a first-year Queensland police constable is in a stable but critical condition after being shot in the leg during a welfare check at Yengarie on the Fraser Coast near Maryborough. The armed man shot at police with a rifle when they arrived at the property just before 6 pm, forcing officers to retreat and call in specialist units.
