Ohio Battles Alternative Meat Labels Ohio Is The Latest State To Debate Alternative Meat Labels According to MeatingPlace.Com, Two legislators in Ohio introduced legislation to regulate the labeling of alternative meat products. House Bill 661, which Republican State Representatives Roy Klopfenstein and Jack Daniels introduced, would deem alternative proteins as “misbranded” if the packaging included the “identifying meat terms” of beef, wing, cold cut and other animal protein terms. Only if the packaging also included such words as “imitation,” “fake” or “vegan” would it be eligible for sale in Ohio. The bill would also prevent school boards from purchasing misbranded alternative-meat products.
