Oilers pre-season games, Vasily Podkolzin's extension, and Jake Walman on deck

It's Wednesday once again, which means a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never is ready to recap another pre-season week for the Edmonton Oilers. On today's podcast, I discussed the start of the Oilers' pre-season schedule, the latest on Connor McDavid watch, Vasily Podkolzin's extension, and anything else that's happened over the last seven days.With the Oilers' pre-season underway, we're finally inching our way toward the start of the 2025-26 NHL season. The problem, of course, is that we're still nowhere closer to a solution on the Connor McDavid contract situation. And while I'm still hopeful and confident that a deal will get done, I'd be lying if I said I didn't think this situation would have been resolved by now. Yet, despite the captain's contract situation lingering, the Oilers did get some work done yesterday with a three-year extension for Vasily Podkolzin. We're also starting to hear some reports that the team is getting close to an extension for Jake Walman, which interests me a lot because I initially thought they'd want to get No. 97 done first.Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a Righteous Sack Beating about my Internet before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails.
