Oklahoma’s First National Park
from Wayward Stories · host Justin Minor
How many of you have heard of Platt National Park? How many of you even KNEW Oklahoma HAD a National Park? Show of hands…be honest! As it turns out, Oklahoma had one of America’s earliest established National Parks and it maintained that status until 1976 when it was absorbed into two other properties to become the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. While still administered by the NPS, it no longer has the much-aspired to status of one of America’s “National Parks”. This, however does not diminish its beauty or general awesomeness! Listen in tonight to hear about my adventure to explore the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Platt Historic District and Turner Falls (Oklahomas tallest waterfall) to boot! For photos, videos and more about tonight’s show and more check out www.waywardstories.com Thanks for listening!
