from The Walter Scott Library Hosted by Sir Walter Scott
In which a weary schoolmaster finds solace in evening walks by a secluded Scottish burial-ground, where he encounters the singular and devout figure known as Old Mortality, who dedicates his life to preserving the memory of persecuted Covenanters through diligent care of their neglected tombstones.
