Old Mortality Volume 1 Chapter 6

In which young Morton finds refuge for his stern and fervent guest, whose solemn meditations and martial zeal prompt a deep discourse on faith, duty, and the tumultuous state of the realm. He then resolves to follow his father’s martial path abroad, only to be met with the cold calculations and reluctant opposition of his miserly uncle, whose worldly prudence tempers Morton's ardent designs.
