Olive oil presses
from Daily Picture · host Stephanie Hawkins
Today I saw a distinct thumb with the rest of the hand not visible. This reminds me of the anointing olive oil smeared on the right ear lobe, right big toe and right thumb of a healed leper, after the sacrificial blood had also been smeared, signifying a reconsecration to God, a life committed wholly to God. Pure olive oil was also used for the perpetually lit Tabernacle lamps (see Exodus 26:20-21), representing God's unceasing presence, His unbroken covenant with Israel and His divine light. Massive stones and huge wooden beams formed the ancient oil presses to produce this precious oil. The first account of the olive tree in the Bible was after Noah had sent a dove out, when the flood rains had ceased and the water was receding; the dove returned with an olive branch. This was a time of hope of reconsecration of mankind to God. Mankind was wholly reunited to God through Jesus Christ [Greek]/Messiah[Hebrew] meaning 'the anointed one'. The night before Jesus knew He was to be crucified, He agonised in the Garden of Gethsemane which, in Hebrew, means "Oil Press". Jesus was feeling the pressure of mankind's sins which he was prepared to shed His blood for but, nevertheless, was a massive burden to carry. If you have given your life to Christ and yet feel great pressures, know that God wants to render a metaphorically beautiful aroma and pure oil out of your life. He is changing you so you can relate to the Truths of His Kingdom and represent Him increasingly.
