OMF- Charlotte Anderson (5) malignant rhabdoid tumor, Londonderry, NH, with her parents, Sara and Jonathan and twin brother, Jack

from WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon

Last summer Charlotte began limping and complaining of leg pain. Her primary care doctor referred the family for blood work and x-rays. Her original diagnosis was minor leg length discrepancy and was sent to a physical therapist.  After about a month with no improvement from physical therapy and her symptoms getting worse, Charlotte had additional x-rays, blood work and an MRI. The MRI showed a mass pushing on her lower spine. The mass had wrapped around her nerve that ran down her leg. Charlotte went into surgery the following morning.  Charlotte’s treatment has included triple laminectomy to decompress her spine --  8 rounds of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of daily radiation. Charlotte completed her treatment in April.  Charlotte loves playing outside with her brother and neighborhood friends.  She likes to color and tell stories. She enjoys singing and dancing around the house too.  Charlotte is going into kindergarten at Moose Hill School in Londonderry NH.  Sara admits that she never really understood what the Jimmy Fund was prior to her daughter's diagnosis. She’d see the logo at a Red Sox game or hear about a fundraiser and knew it had something to do with sick kids but that was about the extent of it. Now that she has seen firsthand and experienced the care, they provided her family, she is forever in their debt and will do anything she can to help raise awareness and funds.
