Leona O'Neill witnessed the murder of fellow journalist Lyra McKee in April 2019, an incident that she reported on diligently, barely realising how it was traumatising her. Together with Chris Lindsay she has put together a book called "Breaking - Trauma In The Newsroom", in which some of the best journalists in Britain and Ireland relate their stories of how their work had massive negative effects on their mental health. Leona discusses that fateful night and talks about its aftermath, the need for proper supports for journalists covering traumatic events and how we have to make it OK to talk about trauma and to ask for help in modern newsrooms.
