"ON BORROWED TIME": A STORY ABOUT A GRANDPA THAT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET

This well acted and well-written play from John Chapman was a big hit on Broadway in 1938 then became a classic movie in 1939. The story itself is a twist on an old Greek fable in which death is tricked into climbing a pear tree which had been blessed by St. Polycarp to trap anyone who was trying to steal an old woman's pears. It this story, a wise old Grandpa uses the trick to trap a man who is bringing death to his home- that man's name is Brink. The main characters are Gramps and his wife Nellie and their orphaned grandson Pud- and they are doing their best to keep a money-grubbing Aunt from taking control of Pud;s inheritance because they believe, and rightly so, that she wants to use it for herself. This is a story that will steal your heart and remind you that love is the reason for living and death, no matter how much we may hate it and fear it, is an inescapable part of life.
