One day, I will walk that path, My mother walked today. One day too, I shall close my eyes Not to open them again under these fair skies. One day I shall follow them, My many ancestors, who, Lived and breathed and laughed And sighed, now all gone, To somewhere new. One day there will be New young ones, Who will lay me to my rest. They may say a few gentle words, the kindest, ‘She did her best.’ From thence into the Lords own hands, I must commend my spirit, And in my gentle yielding, Would have as He would will it. I hope very much to see her there, More radiant than a pearl. There she is to greet me, Me, her eldest girl.
