On The Death Dhamma

from Everyday Samurai Life · host Ken Yamarashi

The Way of the Warrior is found in death and it eventually comes for everyone. This is why The Stoics used the phrase ‘memento mori’ to keep the inevitability of death present in mind. An awareness of death reminds us to appreciate life, to be careful in small matters, and recognize that our time on earth is limited and, therefore, precious. Learning to deal with the inevitability of death, loss, and other forms of suffering is a skill that must be cultivated, particularly by those that consider themselves warriors. The mindfulness faculties acquired by accepting death yield powers useful in every area of life. In this interview conducted by the Death Dhamma Podcast we explore specific mindfulness techniques for skillfully processing our experiences of loss, suffering, and trauma.
