On the ground at the Silver Scroll Awards

from RNZ - All Programmes

We're crossing to the APRA Silver Scroll Awards, which this year mark 100 years of celebrating Aotearoa's best songwriters and composers. For the first time this year, APRA has introduced Te Tihi o te Maunga Tito - a new award honouring the songwriters behind kapa haka and the original waiata that carry te reo Maori, culture and identity. And its inaugural winner is Rob Ruha, for Te Tapuni, performed by his kapa haka Te Taumata o Apanui. Rob is a Maori artist, composer and music director whose work spans kapa haka, contemporary music and major projects including the reo Maori adaptations of Disney films Moana and The Lion King. He joins Emile Donovan to talk about what this win means to him.
