For this hour, our third and final show honoring the life of Randall Robinson" international human rights activist and leader in the movement to bring down the brutal, racist system of apartheid in South Africa. Voices: Rep. Maxine Waters, Rev. Jean Robinson-Casey and Jewell Robinson. Plus headlines. Randall Robinson was a human rights activist and founder of the organization TransAfrica. Best known for his tireless advocacy against the near-genocidal system of South African apartheid, and for democracy in Haiti, he was a mainstay of activist life in Washington DC in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, leading sit-ins and rallies outside the South African embassy and holding a hunger strike to support asylum for Haitian refugees. Disgusted by U.S. racism, he left in 2001 to live in St Kitts, where he died during March 2023. He is the author of several books, including The Debt: What America Owes to Blacks and An Unbroken Agony: Haiti, from Revolution to the Kidnapping of a President.
