On Writing and Fighting White Supremacy

from Walter Rhein Podcast · host Walter Rhein and Ellie Leonard

It’s always my great pleasure to talk with Ellie Leonard. I’ve been recording voiceovers for her book chapters and she’s always so happy to receive them. I keep hoping that one day all this madness will end and Ellie and I can have weekly conversations about writing and nothing else.Thinking that almost brought a tear to my eye.It is always a thrill to have other people interpret your words. The best way to make a writer happy is to post a review for them. We talk about giving gifts and whatnot, but acts of kindness like leaving book reviews and recording voice performances of a text evoke a different and more enduring type of happiness. I guess it’s just the gift of being seen.I’ve also been having my daughter do cartoon versions of author profiles. She started with Dana DuBois and Lawrence Winnerman, then she did Ellie:Ellie was delighted by this. Now, if you are a fan of Ellie, you should send in your own fan art. That’s the best way to show your appreciation (well… short of becoming a paid supporter of course—actually in the long run the fan art might be worth more).I have more to say about Ellie’s book. I bring it up in my other podcasts. I offer some thoughts on it in the podcast I did for Rise Together:Incidentally, the drawing I did for that is my own :)! My daughter said she’s working on a profile sketch for me.Anyway, we covered a lot of ground in this talk. My big concern is that the American public won’t reject this regime even when they have overwhelming evidence of how evil and corrupt our president is. I know we already know he’s corrupt, but we haven’t seen the videos yet. My stomach turns just thinking about that. But perhaps we can find our resolve in recognizing what we’re truly up against. Our job isn’t to demand accountability for the president, we need to demand accountability for ourselves, our friends, and our neighbors. We’re making progress, and wonderful people like Ellie are a big part of that! You can follow her here:Thank you Steward Beckham, NeuroDivergent Hodgepodge, Cat, Sushipheliac 🍣🍥🍣, Thaddeus Howze, and many others for tuning into my live video with Ellie Leonard!
