Once Upon a Time: There Was You (for Piano, Bass, and Drums)

As we move through our lives, we meet and establish varying degrees of friendships, acquaintances, love, affairs, etc. the subjects of these of these relationships interact with us in a myriad of contexts. Over long periods of time these interactions vary, fully change, fall apart... This song is about those deltas in behavior and in expression by looking from the current viewpoint, backward to the beginning when we first met them. It is slightly melancholy and introspective song because that is typical where we are--and likely where these other subjects(people) are in regards to us. Seldom do we get to this retrospective point, without there being lament for the past and beginning. "Once upon a time" is that proverbial beginning to the "fairytales" we learned as children--consequentially, sometimes it was those same fairytales that misshape and contort our view of the world and lead us to some of these "points of lament", "You "in the title could be us--or it could be "them" it is purposefully vague as to allow the "narrative" of what these song represents to the listener to be self-describe and purposeful to the listener...
