One Year of Light
from The Sportsman's Light · host Patrick
A journey of a thousand miles is walked in single steps — and a year of devotionals is read one morning at a time. Step back and consider what a daily walk with God actually builds: not one dramatic transformation, but hundreds of small course corrections, each one made by a little more light on the path. The psalmist called God's Word a lamp for his feet. Not a floodlight illuminating the whole journey — a lamp, showing enough for the next step. That's how God tends to lead: one step's worth of light, followed by another, followed by another, until a man looks back and realizes he has been carried a long way. However long you've been walking this path — a year, a month, a week — the practice is the same. Show up. Open the Word. Take the step the light reveals. The lamp never runs out of oil, and the path, walked faithfully, leads home.Prayer:Lord, thank You for every morning Your Word has put light on my path — for all the small course corrections I never noticed You making.Keep me walking one lit step at a time. I don't need to see the whole road. I just need the lamp — and You have never let it go out. Amen.Challenge:Look back at your walk with God over the past year. Write down three specific ways you've changed — habits, attitudes, faith — that happened one small step at a time. Share one of them with somebody who will be encouraged by it.
