Online resources from AARP help protect Mississippi’s military community against fraud
Mississippi has more than 200-thousand military-veterans and active-duty service-members. And, to mark this year’s May-observance of “Military Appreciation Month”, “A-A-R-P” recently launched its online “Veterans Fraud Center”—to help protect veterans, service-members, and their families against scams. Kimberly L- Campbell is “A-A-R-P Mississippi’s” state-director… “Targeting scams at members of the military-community is unconscionable. Yet, a recent, national survey from ‘A-A-R-P’ finds that one-in-three military- or veteran-adults have lost money to a scam that specifically took advantage of the trust that they have in the military-community. What’s more, veterans, active-duty service-members, and their families are 40-percent more likely to lose money to fraud than the civilian-population. The free resources in this new ‘Veterans Fraud Center’ include a scam-tracking map, and a new edition of our ‘Watchdog Alert Handbook’—with tips to both detect and avoid the most-common ways that con-artists specifically target veterans and military-families.” To learn more, visit “a-a-r-p”-dot-org-slash-“vets-fraud-center”.
