Florida’s unique swamp habitat is also known as the River of Grass and being actively drilled for oil. All of South Florida's water supply comes from the Biscayne Acquifer, which sits under the Everglades. Recently a Florida firm was fined for using the environmentally dubious drilling technique "Fracking" or Hydraulic Fracturing in the Everglades. Fracking is known to cause seismic activity in Ohio and poisoning wells in Texas. The endangered native cat, the Florida Panther lives in a fragile ecosystem that is administered by numerous public and private land owners, and threatened by oil drilling.
