Open Our Understanding

The Emmaus disciples had heard the reports of the resurrection. They knew the Scriptures. They had walked with Jesus. Yet they were still downcast, confused, and walking away from Jerusalem. Their problem was not the absence of information, but the absence of rightly opened understanding. In this devotion, we are reminded that the answer to confusion, disappointment, and shaken hope is not always another sign or emotional experience. Sometimes our deepest need is for Christ to open the Word we already have and give us understanding.
