Opioid Awareness Campaign | Rachel Tyree and Bruce Dundore

Every 11 minutes, someone in America dies from opioid overdose. This week on The Deciders, we talk with Rachel Tyree (Communications Director at the LA County Public Health Department), and Bruce Dundore (Creative Director at Fraser Communications) about a new LA County Public Health campaign. The campaign was developed by Fraser Communications, and designed to help people addicted to Opioids. We have all heard about the ‘Opioid Epidemic’, but you may be surprised by the scope of the issue. Astonishingly, almost 6 out of 10 prescriptions written by health care providers are for opioids. In this episode, Rachel also discusses the concerns associated with Fentanyl (a synthetic opioid 50 times more potent than heroin), which are often cut into opioids purchased on the street. It has been well publicized in the last 24 hours that well known rapper, Mac Miller (26 years old) died of an overdose in late 2018 due to this very process. Mac Miller was sold counterfeit oxycodone pills, laced with fentanyl.
