Optatam Totius - Decree on Priestly Training

The Decree on Priestly Training Optatam Totius, proclaimed by Pope Paul VI in 1965, provides a detailed framework for the formation of priests within the Catholic Church. It emphasizes the importance of priestly training, fostering vocations, and the crucial role of seminaries in preparing future priests. The document addresses various aspects of priestly formation, including spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral aspects. It calls for a revision of ecclesiastical studies, incorporating modern scholarship while remaining grounded in traditional Catholic doctrine. The Decree also advocates for the inclusion of practical pastoral training, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, communication, and service to the community. It concludes with a powerful call to action, reminding future priests that the hope of the Church and the salvation of souls rest on their shoulders.
